your correct, based on Steve Jobbs response to this which was pure BS we can never trust that the files do NOT get sent out.
Apple has been open about collecting location data. However that does does not come from consolidated.db. The database that everyone is talking about is data sent FROM Apple TO your phone. Why would Apple collect the data that they sent to you?

The issue is that if your phone is compromised by a third party, this DB could be used to infer information about your location (you location is not directly stored in the DB). The changes being made reduce this risk by shortening the cache and encrypting the data.

So you only payed $1600 for them, and now they're worth $125,000. You legend!! Good luck..

No, my cost basis is closer to $6,400.00. I paid an average of $16/share, before the two splits. Lest we forget, there were a lot of dark times between then and now. When it dropped 50% overnight on that terrible day in September 2000, I thought I was going to be physically ill. It took nerve to hang on through these moments, or complete idiocy. Your choice. Either way, it worked out.

With Apple having pushed out a new update (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/29/apple-seeds-new-version-of-mac-os-x-lion-11a444d-to-developers/) to the Mac OS X Lion developer preview program, those with access to the new build have been looking for changes in an attempt to see what Apple has been working on over the past few weeks.

One minor point that caught our eye is a change in the user interface elements for selecting subpanes within System Preferences. In this latest build, the active subpane is denoted by a sunken, darker button that appears as if it has been pushed, as shown in the Expos & Spaces preference pane.

    http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/29/162642-lion_subpane_button_new_500.jpg

Current "button" style subpane selector with Expos active
Earlier builds of Mac OS X Lion had used a sort of slider animation where the active subpane was represented by a lighter colored button that confused many users when simply glancing at the pane without attempting to move the slider and thus having the animation to key on.

    http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/29/162642-lion_subpane_slider_old_500.jpg

Earlier "slider" style subpane selector with Spaces active
In the face of that criticism, Apple appears to have rethought its mechanism for switching between subpanes and reverted back to a button style that appears more intuitive.

A similar change has been made in iCal, where an earlier slider-style navigator (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/31/mac-os-x-lion-developer-preview-2-brings-new-look-for-ical/) was rolled out to select among day/week/month/year views but has now been replaced by more traditional button-style selectors.

I would have a hard time enjoying something which reminded me every time I used it that I'd probably cost some kid his job, and that I basically stole. Sure, the feeling of euphoria for "sticking it to the man" must have been pretty cool, but now, every time you use it, remember what kind of person you are deep down. And don't for a minute think that returning that phone you found negates this...when the chips were down, and it was really tempting (not some cruddy used phone that you'd have had to make an effort to use) you failed at being a decent person.

Edit: This is what ignore lists are for, by the way. I hope I never have to read another thing you write.

Okay, MWSF 2007 was all about the iPhone, and anyone interested in Macs had to go somewhere else to find entertainment ... but it feels like this is the second year in a row when that's happened...

It seems as if Apple has (temporarily) abandoned any attempt to make Time Machine work with ethernet drives. What do we conclude about that? Apple screwed up? What's the problem already?

Penryn CPUs in MacBook Pros? Where? When? Is Apple in some sort of slow bicycle race, and thinks it should be the last major laptop manufacturer to announce this? I mean really, I's just like to know, because I'll buy as soon as they're ready. Unless I die of boredom waiting.

iPod touch gets mail. This is a big deal. Such a big deal, in fact, that I now don't need one of those razor blade shaped toys Steve announced today. And I doubt I'm the only one. The MBA looks horribly like the world's heaviest PDA, not the world's lightest laptop. I could be wrong, of course.

KARMA DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!!!

Anyway, if you actually care about the morality of your action, (or technically lack of action,) only you can decide if you did the right thing or not. If you sleep soundly at night then it wasn't immoral.

Ethically, your probably going to heat if you tell people about it. Modern-day ethics say stealing form an individual by a corporation is fine. An individual stealing from a corporation is bad.

Eitherway, it will not come out of his paycheck. However, if he is new he might be fired. If he has done it multiple times he might be fired. Realistically, if it wasn't you it would have been someone else though. We all make mistakes, but apparently that isn't the correct job for him.

BTW... I love all the post by people suggesting that to "fix" the issue by going back and lying about what happened.

I would normally not consider purchasing a GM vehicle, but the Volt looks really good.

The U.S. can build cars just as good as the best of the rest of the world, but only when we want to - which is a shame, because we historically haven't wanted to.

It's obvious that Steve Jobs was going to release the True Video iPod soon. I think they intended to release the true video iPod in October when they announced Movie downloads. Something must have happened that the iPod was just not ready, so they scrambled and made some minor upgrades that they intended to do anyways.

Apple knows it has to get it right or it could be a big disaster. Their goal is to release it before the holidays, but if for some reason they can't, it will be released at Mac World. I think their main issues that have caused it to be delayed is the battery life and the screen cover. The battery life has to be from 4 to 6 hours and the screen has to have some kind of protection that won't be damaged if it is touched constantly.

If it is going to be released it will happen anytime from now until the second week of November or during the first week of December. If it does not happen during these two time frames it won't happen until Mac World.

Great post. I've been saying this all along. The widescreen iPod is a severly delayed product. And don't give me semantics about how an unannounced product can be delayed. That's just Apple's way to shirk around the responsibility that comes along with a deadline.

This product will not drop during the holiday season. Who knows if it will even be ready by January.

This is key. If the iPhone 4 isn't dropping calls any more often than the 3GS, then there is no real issue at all.....

But Apple admitted that it DOES drop more calls than 3GS.

They spun it as "less than 1 per 100", but assuming all 3,000,000 iPhone 4 users make about 5 calls per day, that's over ONE MILLION dropped calls per week MORE than iPhone 3GS.

    It's a problem.
It's been reproduced by CNET, Consumer Reports, NYT, and many others.

The debate here is not whether there's a problem, but why Apple is obfuscating, rather than fixing it, pretending that bridging the gap of their electrically exposed antenna is equivalent to attenuating an antenna by completely covering it with one's meaty hand.
(seems like moving this gap to the bottom edge of the phone where it's far less likely to be touched, would be an easy fix).

...I'd like The Steve to walk on stage and announce that they absolutely will not release certain products,

That is a really good idea.

He would have to come up with language that does not confirm or deny, but still states "not this quarter".

I believe it would increase sales on the margin for peple waiting for the next great thing to come out ala Merom MBP, despite the fact that the only benefit to Merom over Yonah is 64 bit.

He should UPOD and SAY this was the greatest processor improvement in a decade and additional improvements will be incremental for a couple years.

Even if we later learn those increments are doublings of processor counts. Besides that ONLY benefits threaded applications, not "traditional applications" which have seen a plateau for the forseeable future.

At some point the consumer experience is not appreciably improved by processor improvements. Except for media processing intensive applicatons, we are there.

That alone ia an amazing statement for the Apple platform.

Can any other platform say that or even promise that any time within 2 years?

As it has been said, I agree that AMD shows promise and is a good option for down the road, but the fact is that Intel is just a better option right now. They have more of the ability to develop the chips Apple needs at the quantity they need them, and the timeline is there so it's Apple's call, not the chipmaker's, when they can release upgrades. Down the road, possibly, but not right now.
