Has anybody travelled TO India with personal gold jewellery? I am not concerned about theft/security. My question is about Customs clearance at the airport. Do we need to declare it or pay customs duty?

I travelled to chennai last March via Emirates. No problems with transit visa or something. The price was good too. airport has a duty free shop for Jewellery and other stuff. good place to shop. but we had to wait a long time for the connecting flight.
The next time I go there, am planning to take a visa and tour Dubai. Heard that Dubai has some great places to see.

What I am saying his employer process pay roll for $5800, he gets in hand after tax deduction.
You guys should understand one thing if your base salary is $1000/k, company should process $8333/pm on a pay roll then pay roll will decide about tax withholdings. There is no way company can show gimmicks and run pay roll for less. I have been working for the past 8 years, all the time companies divided annual salary by biweekly and deposited rest will be taken care by pay roll processing.
Bottom line pay slip should show 8333 not even single penny less for 100k it means you are employer is cheating you.

You will get some relief if SKIL goes through because so many people will be exempted from cap. why do you want to break your back by studying for another degree whihc you are not interested 100%

Has IV explored or conveyed DOS about considering the First Arrival date on H1B or the first day on H1B job after graduating to be the priority date ? If DOS can implement this without change in law ?
The Ideal Scenario would be First Arrival Date or Labor Filing Date which ever comes first should be the priority date after I 140 is approved. What do you think IV core?
If DOS implements this it will be a boon for long time GC hopefuls !

From my calibrated 213T but in my non-profile-aware browser, the blacks are nice and dark while retaining "enough" detail. :)

Even if the flight staff hand you a new I-94, you are supposed to FILL IN the numbers from your previous I-94. That is why there are blanks spaces on the I-94.

Even if you are not working on a project, you are technically working for a H1-B sponsorer. Once you could file your AOS, you are legal with a status of "AOS pending". During 180 days period, you don't have to work and just sit at home. Its very unlikely that your already filed AOS application will get adjudicated within 180 days. Once after 180days of filing, you invoke AC21 and start working on again with any employer.
It sounds a cake walk from your response, What if there is an RFE after 180 days on your sponsor/employer? You missed the point that GC is for future employment with the sponsor. There are certain situations where employee can invoke AC21 and get the protection against employer initiated termination etc. If you do not work for extended period.. no matter whether it is with in 180 or not.. USCIS may anytime during adjudication, question your intention for GC.

This is a very basic question and I need answer on this as early as possible and guidance from you.
I came to this country in Dec 2001 on H1B Visa.
I never applied for green card since then.
Now on Dec1,2007 my H1B expires so I will have to go back to China.
If I file for green card at this point, will I be able to get the yearly extension for next few years till my GC comes?
Am I even eligible to do so?
Can I go to Canada and still work in USA (Since I live close to canadian border)?
If you have gone for out of US vacations etc, you can claim "absence time" to extend H1 beyond Dec 2007. For example, if total time outside US is 3 months then you can extend H1 until Mar 1st 2008.
This gives little more time to get I-140 approved and file for 3 year H1 extension based on approved I-140.

Doing something is always better than doing nothing. If IV members would go for the meeting there are chances that they would meet some people and talk to them. In the next meeting these people would go to the stage and talk about IV. If one does not do anything there is a high chance that one would do anything in future.
Please motivate IV members to do something. It does not matter whether it would bear results or not. After few errors they would be doing better and right things. Lets walk the talk and not talk talk talk.
If people really want to do something, then how about we organize a rally in DC and show up in thousands?
Then everyone will know you and you do not need to go to meetings just to show your faces and expect that someone will have mercy on us and think about us next time.

Our Immigration status is EAD and my wife is pregnant,
We are very happy with the news..
There is lot of possibility for us to be in India during due date, based on few important events in family.
We would like to know.. if baby is born in India then what possibilities are there for us to bring baby along with us?
(if mother stays in India for couple of more months)
can baby also get Green Card when we (parents) are allotted green card?
All your advices are always appreciated.
